Technology Summary: Mitsubishi Electric 8.5kW ASHP & 3kW Solar Thermal Integration

Matrix Energy Systems carried out Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) calculations and Heat Loading calculations on this property in order to correctly design a bespoke system for Mr Stonehouse. The information indicated the environmental and financial benefits that could be expected when adopting integrated renewable technologies; Matrix Energy Systems also advised on the levels of insulation necessary to get the maximum benefit from the Mitsubishi Electric system while ensuring a good return on investment.

The project was accepted and the systems were integrated to give maximum energy efficiency to the home with heating from an underfloor heating system on the ground floor and radiators on the first floor. The solar equipment was installed in the loft area in close proximity to the solar collectors to maximise efficiency. The Mitsubishi Electric ASHP was located away from the building and the highest quality pipe insulation was used in purpose made ducting to ensure efficient operation of the system.

The overall reduction in CO­2­ emissions from the previous oil system is around 60% with a saving on home heating and hot water bills of over 50%.

The project has received the Renewable Heating Premium Payments for both the ASHP and Solar systems and will begin generating income for the family in Spring 2014.
